The Sketchbook Project – As the crow flies

Just between you and me I’m pretty sure crows don’t fly in a straight line.

The Sketchbook Project – Timezones

So many countries to visit, so little time ;)

I originally had the idea to make up weird names for the cities but then I ran out of time. With the Sketchbook deadline looming I decided to google weird city names but I didn’t find anything bizarre enough, eventually I just settled on some interesting sounding locations. Anyway, even though it didn’t really turn out as I first imagined it was fun to draw.

The Sketchbook Project – The Family Watch

This was my Father’s watch before he passed away. It’s not the sort of watch I would usually wear, actually I don’t wear a watch at all, but lately I’ve grown to like it so I’m going to get the band adjusted so I can wear it.

A quiet cycle along Sydney streets is always fraught with danger.

The Sketchbook Project – Scientist

The child in me would like to believe that somewhere out in the suburbs, in a small room containing weird mechanical devices and bubbling chemical apparatus, someone is working day and night to build a time machine.

The Sketchbook Project – The Paradox

The time paradox. If you were travelling through time this is what it would look like. Btw, how much time does it take to travel through time?

The Sketchbook Project – The Heart

and here’s the first page. The front cover has a hole cut in it so that you can see this page. My thinking was that the cover of the book is like the outside of a time machine and the round window looks into the heart (a bubbling liquid) of the machine.

The Sketchbook Project – Distance and Time

It’s time for more Sketchbooking fun. I’m taking part in the Sketchbook Project ‘Limited’ for 2012. If you’re not familiar with The Sketchbook Project it’s a collaborative project created by the Art House Co-op in Brooklyn, NY. All the sketchbooks from artists are stored in their library which is open to the public for viewing. The library tours around the American countryside, venturing into Canada and down to Australia (Melbourne) in November.

The Limited Edition is restricted to 5,000 artists and a theme is required. They have a few to choose from. I’ve chosen ‘Distance and Time’. I guess they make you choose a theme so that they can create sections in the book(s). Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, they will be making a series of books featuring at least one spread from all the artists’ sketchbooks. Can’t wait to see my work in print :)

The deadline for posting the sketchbook is April 30. I have 8 pages to complete so I’d better get cracking. I love deadlines, ha!

This is the last post in the Sketchbook series. Fourteen 1996 – 2010. I’m guessing by now you know what this is about ;)

The Sketchbook Project – Little Shadow

Well, I sent the book off this morning. Off to New York to live with the other 5,000 sketchbooks. I hope it makes the journey safely.

The Sketchbook Project – About

I thought it would be appropriate to include an about page in the sketchbook. If on the off chance someone does pick it up I hope this gives them some insight and meaning behind the words and illustrations. But what are the chances? Out of the 5,000 books on display I doubt mine will ever be read, until I go and search it out myself of course :)

The Sketchbook Project – Wanderings

The Australia shaped coat hanger car aerial. You don’t see these in the city, more of a country thing I guess. Or maybe I just haven’t been looking that hard. This week’s challenge is to see one in the flesh.
